SAFE lends money to member states for defence procurements; Canada’s participation makes Canadian companies eligible to bid on SAFE-supported purchases. Marconi Technologies launched in May, after Canadian investors (including former bank executive Louis Vachon) bought a tactical communications equipment business—descended from the former Marconi Wireless Telegraph Communication Company of Canada—from U.K. defence contractor Cobham Ultra.
