The Canadian Union of Public Employees said their members will return to work tomorrow and resume collective bargaining negotiations, after Premier Doug Ford said he would repeal a bill that made the strike illegal and invoked the notwithstanding clause. (The Logic, CityNews)
Talking point: While students may be returning to schools and a general strike appears to be averted, union leaders said they are still prepared to head to the picket lines if they can’t reach a fair collective agreement with the province. Concerns about the bill had also sparked other unions to speak out. Unifor’s autoworkers said Sunday they were “exploring all options” to get the legislation rescinded even amid ongoing supply-chain issues that have hampered auto production since the pandemic. “To be very clear, the bargaining table is the only place where this will be settled,” said Unifor national president Lana Payne at a press conference Monday. “Unifor members were and are prepared to vigorously oppose this law.”
