Talking point: During his election campaign, Prime Minister Mark Carney promised to double the rate of home construction in Canada. His platform promised $41 billion to build, finance, and incentivize construction, but the new Liberal government has said little about the plan since. In a six-page consultation document, the federal government said the agency would focus on a small number of big deals to expand builders’ affordable housing portfolio. It would also act as a developer by working directly with contractors to take on some of the financial risk.
