In a note to employees that he also posted to the social media platform, co-founder and CEO Dorsey said he was resigning from the company. CTO Parag Agrawal is taking over as CEO. The company also announced the appointment of Bret Taylor as board chair, replacing Montrealer Patrick Pichette, who remains a board member and as audit- committee chair. (The Logic)
Talking point: Twitter created the board chair position in 2020 in part to assuage New York-based activist hedge fund Elliott Management, which wanted to have Dorsey removed as CEO. Elliot also demanded that the traditionally underperforming company grow its user base, revenue and share of the digital-ad market. It marks the second time Dorsey has stepped down from the CEO role at the company. He will remain CEO of Square. Shares in the social media company closed down nearly three per cent Monday.
