Frank Scarpitti tweeted that the plant will make “state-of-the-art” manufacturing equipment that will be used in the EV maker’s gigafactories elsewhere. It will be located south of Ontario Highway 7, west of Warden Avenue, Scarpitti said. (The Logic)
Talking point: Tesla is making more battery cells and that means it needs more machines that build the machine. The EV-maker posted a recruitment video on LinkedIn earlier this week calling for Markham-based applicants, featuring a battery cathode researcher and a machinist programming battery-production equipment. In the video, Tesla said it had 1,200 employees in Canada, two manufacturing facilities and three research-and-development centres. The City of Markham did not respond to The Logic’s request for more details on the deal by publication time. Tesla dissolved its public relations department last year, and CEO Elon Musk, who has said he prefers to follow journalists directly on Twitter, did not immediately respond to a tweet requesting comment.
