The Logic is now accepting applications to its program for BIPOC Journalists, an initiative to amplify voices of underrepresented communities in the Canadian media landscape.

We are an independent, made-in-Canada digital media company founded in 2018 in the belief that Canadians will pay for great journalism. Combining exclusive news, in-depth reporting, insightful analysis and smart curation, we confront the critical questions that are shaping this country’s economic future.

Our coverage of Canada’s economic transformation includes topics like the country’s emerging tech sector; the disruption of legacy industries; Canada’s institutional and venture investors; the collision of new technology with policy and regulation; and the impact of this transformation on how Canadians work and live.

The program will provide a unique opportunity for an aspiring or early-stage journalist to gain first-hand newsroom experience, as well as one-on-one mentoring from seasoned business reporters and editors.

Over the course of 12 months, the successful candidate will work as a general assignment reporter and hone their reporting, writing and digital journalism skills. They will develop an eye for stories in news releases, public filings, data sets and access-to-information returns. They’ll also regularly contribute to our award-winning daily newsletter.

This is a year-long program that includes a salary of $52,000, two weeks of paid time off and a full benefits package.

What you’ll do:

  • Work full-time as general assignment reporter at The Logic from September 2022 through August 2023. While The Logic’s main newsroom is in Toronto, this may be offered as a remote experience due to the COVID-19 pandemic, or in consideration of the successful candidate’s location
  • Research, pitch and write Canadian business, tech and innovation news stories and features
  • Receive one-on-one mentorship and training on elements of business journalism and investigative reporting
  • Participate in The Logic’s regular newsroom professional development sessions
  • Contribute to long-term data projects and enterprise stories, working closely with The Logic’s reporting team
  • Produce breaking news and write under deadline for The Logic’s Daily Briefing newsletter

Who you are:

  • You’re an aspiring or early-stage, BIPOC journalist in Canada
  • You’re able to work both independently and collaboratively
  • You have an adaptive and entrepreneurial mindset
  • You file clean copy on deadline
  • You are curious and have knowledge of, or an interest in, innovative Canadian businesses and the future of Canada’s economy

To apply, please submit the following:

  • Your resume
  • A cover letter telling us how your experience and skills would augment The Logic’s coverage. Please include up to three samples of published work.

Applications are due by 6 p.m. ET on Monday, July 25.

Not sure if you’re qualified? Please apply anyway. We’re hiring people, not resumes, and we are committed to building an inclusive environment.

The Logic is committed to inclusiveness, equity and accessibility. If you require accommodations at any step of the application or interview process, please contact [email protected]. Accommodations may include but are not limited to: alternative methods of communication, providing a detailed “what to expect,” or modified interview process. Please note this list is not exhaustive and we are more than happy to discuss other accommodations as required.
