    Vancouver port reaches truce with container terminal operator over Roberts Bank project

    The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority and its tenant GCT Global Container Terminals agreed to take a year to negotiate whether GCT can build and operate the port’s massive Roberts Bank Terminal 2 expansion. The parties credited the federal Major Projects Office with helping them reach the agreement. GCT had been pushing an expansion of its own nearby terminal but said it would withdraw its request to the MPO for that expansion to be treated as a national priority project. (The Logic)

    Toronto vegan cheese startup AuX Labs raises US$4 million

    NYA Ventures and Nàdarra Ventures led the round, with participation from Bluestein Ventures, Builders VC, Congruent Ventures and Verdex Capital. AuX plans to use the money to commercialize its vegan cheese product, which uses microbreweries’ microbial strains and fermentation processes. (TechCrunch)

    OMERS to add $10 billion in new Canadian investments over five years

    The Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System is looking to increase its domestic exposure from about 18 per cent—or about $26 billion—to 25 per cent, CEO Blake Hutcheson told The Globe and Mail, pointing to growing opportunities in infrastructure, real estate, and defence and startup financing.     Liberals introduce bill to set rules for space launches from Canadian soil

    The Canadian Space Launch Act would do little by itself, but it would give the cabinet or federal transport minister authority to regulate vehicles and sites for launches and re-entries, to require people to have insurance before trying to fire things into space, and to limit land uses near key sites that could interfere with their operations.     Bank of Canada has ‘very ambitious timelines’ for stablecoin regulations

    The central bank expects to implement a new regulatory framework governing stablecoins—crypto assets pegged to the value of a government-issued currency—in less time than the five years it took to introduce its oversight of payments companies, managing director of supervision Anne Butler said at a Toronto conference Tuesday morning.     Regina-area municipality approves a new Bell data centre over noisy protests

    The Regional Municipality of Sherwood approved the 300-megawatt facility for Bell’s Fabric AI network in a Monday meeting, after calling police to deal with demonstrators outside who were chanting and pounding on the council chamber’s doors and windows. Bell Fabric AI president Dan Rink promised to address nearby landowners’ concerns about noise from the data centre and to dig extra wells to monitor the site’s aquifer. (Global News)

    Vancouver robotics company raises $8M for self-driving vehicles

    A&K Robotics, which makes self-driving mobility robots that can move passengers through indoor spaces like airports, said that BDC’s Industrial Innovation Venture Fund and Vantage Futures led the all-equity round. (The Logic)
