Talking point: The decision comes weeks after a U.S. government committee announced a national-security review of the proposed deal, citing the video-chat platform’s “foreign relationships and ownership.” An influential proxy advisor also recommended shareholders reject the deal, due to possible risks around Zoom’s “substantial operations in China.” With the pandemic starting to ease up and more people returning to the office, the company has been looking to diversify its offerings beyond virtual meetings. The purchase of Five9 would have helped Zoom tap into the contact-centre market, which CEO Eric Yuan said remains a “strategic priority” for the company.
