Talking point: The partnerships will help the firm grow its Canadian audience, and will give its 195 million unique monthly users exposure to Canadian listings. The firm started including Canadian listings on its platform in October 2018 and said it’s seen a 32 per cent year-to-date growth of Canadian users. The partnerships will allow Zillow to have a strong Canadian presence, especially in the GTA, but also set it up for competition against other major Canadian players, like Realtor.ca. One of Zillow’s added benefits is what it calls “Zestimates”: estimates of home values that rely on publicly available information on surrounding property values and other market trends. Asked when that feature would be offered in Canada, Kelsey Wickman, industry communications manager for Zillow, said: “At this point, I don’t have any specific timing to share.” In August 2018, the Toronto Real Estate Board lost a Supreme Court bid to prevent the release of such information, like home sales prices, house history and neighbourhood market trends.
