Well has previously made venture-style or strategic investments in Circle Medical, Insig, Phelix.ai, Pillway and Twig Fertility. “We specifically seek to invest in companies that are genuinely committed to leveraging technology to improve health outcomes and that can directly benefit from Well’s ecosystem, size and scale,” said CEO Hamed Shahbazi in a statement. The TSX-listed company offers a virtual-health platform and operates a network of outpatient medical clinics. It recently signed a deal to buy a competing clinic chain and entered into an agreement to acquire CRH Medical. The pandemic’s shift to online health care has prompted more interest in health-care companies, leading to high-profile IPOs and big raises. Venture capitalists expect the trend to continue into 2021.
