Talking point:  As Wealthsimple’s competitors start to face consequences for failing to play by regulators’ rules, the Ontario Securities Commission has granted it a bit of relief, allowing it to expand its roster of crypto assets. There are hundreds of businesses selling cryptocurrencies to Canadians, but Wealthsimple is currently the only crypto-trading platform that has received the Canadian Securities Administrators’ approval to operate. That status came with restrictions, including a ban on offering coins other than Bitcoin and Ether, that didn’t apply to its unregulated competitors. The country’s securities regulators are now cracking down on the industry, with the OSC taking action against three foreign platforms: Poloniex, KuCoin and Bybit.
