Talking point: Hiive, which launched in 2021, is a marketplace where accredited investors and qualified funds can buy and sell shares of late-stage venture backed companies directly from another party without a broker. The company initially launched its trading platform in the U.S. In May it expanded to Canada after obtaining an exempt market dealer licence. The company still primarily operates in the U.S. because that’s where the larger venture capital and hedge funds are based, many of which are active users on the platform, Daniel Tan, strategy analyst for Hiive, told The Logic.
