In Q4 2018, gross bookings—the amount Uber collects before paying drivers—went up 11 per cent quarter-over-quarter to US$14.2 billion. Uber also has US$6.4 billion in unrestricted cash. The company’s total revenue was up 25 per cent from Q4 2017, down from its 38 per cent year-over-year growth in Q3. (TechCrunch)
Talking point: Uber continues to have a large reach—it had US$50 billion in total bookings for its ridesharing and food delivery services, a YoY increase of 45 per cent—but its revenue grew just two per cent from the previous quarter. The report should be good news for Lyft, which is also seeking an IPO. Lyft will leverage its fast growth to attract investors; its market share is approaching 40 per cent in the U.S., an increase from 35 per cent in early 2018.
