Talking point: University of Toronto computer science professor Helen Kontozopoulos co-founded Odaia in 2018 with tech executive Philip Poulidis. Pharmaceutical companies use its platform to identify doctors and other health-care providers to whom they can pitch their products—a CRM for drug sales representatives and marketers. Odaia’s technology deploys AI to sift through client and third-party data to generate those lists. Poulidis told The Logic that the firm will use the money to add new features and grow its staff of 71 with technical, sales and customer service hires. The market for AI health-care applications was worth US$4.1 billion in 2022, per PitchBook, although the category includes more direct applications like drug discovery and clinical uses.
