Talking point: The separate filings each allege that the targets’ dominance in their respective markets impedes competition, reduces choice and raises prices. Neither case has been tested before the tribunal, which has not decided whether to take them up. They’re both brought after recent amendments to the Competition Act that let more third parties—in this case, consumer advocacy groups—bring cases to the tribunal even if they aren’t competitors affected by the misconduct they’re alleging.
