Talking point: This is the first major political intervention we’ve seen in light of criticism surrounding Waterfront Toronto’s partnership with Sidewalk Labs, which could see the two develop Toronto’s Quayside neighbourhood into a tech-driven district. There are now only seven of 12 board members remaining on the board, five have left since last summer. The move follows a report form Ontario’s auditor general, which shared some of those criticisms. “The Auditor General’s report on Waterfront Toronto made it clear that oversight needs strengthening,” said Ontario Infrastructure Minister Monte McNaughton in a statement. The province said it will move to fill the vacancies soon.
