Talking point: TD is currently the only Big Six bank without a distinct startup lending division. In an email to The Logic, Barbara Hooper, group head of business banking at TD, did not confirm the hires but said the bank “continue[s] to evolve and build our venture strategy capabilities—augmenting our existing team whose focus has been on banking later-stage technology companies.” CIBC’s innovation arm also recently hired two former staffers from SVB’s U.S. division. The poaching comes as PwC oversees the sale process for SVB Canada’s assets, which had revised its second deadline for bids from June 26 to July 10. SVB did not respond to The Logic’s request for comment.
