The pipeline giant is now forecasting a 51-billion cubic feet per day increase in North American natural gas demand by 2035—rising about 40 per cent from 2025 levels of roughly 130 billion cubic feet per day to 181 billion cubic feet per day. Previously, TC forecasted demand would reach 170 billion cubic feet per day by 2035. The revision is primarily driven by accelerating power demand—including from AI data centres—as well as from liquefied natural gas exports and industrial growth. (The Logic)
Talking point: On the company’s second quarter earnings call Thursday, CEO Francois Poirier said TC is seeing more demand in Alberta and may be “looking to potentially upsize” some planned expansions in the province, where TC has its NGTL natural gas pipeline network, as growing demand from data centres, power generation and other customers boosts interest in new capacity. The Calgary-based pipeline giant reported stronger-than-expected Q2 results, reporting net income of $987 million, up from $862 million a year earlier.
