Talking point: Svante plans to use the money to support its growth over the next three years, including working on a number of commercial-scale carbon-capture facilities for cement manufacturing and other hard-to-abate industrial emissions. The company has raised more than US$150 million since it was founded in 2007. About a year ago, it joined forces with Switzerland’s Climeworks to reduce the cost of carbon-capture technology by about 80 per cent. Carbon-capture technology has been receiving a lot of attention recently. Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk announced last month that he would donate US$100 million “towards a prize for the best carbon capture technology.”
