Talking point: The investment, announced last month, is one of at least six that the Japanese conglomerate has made in Canadian startups since last summer, when it backed Toronto-based Clearco for its first Canadian investment. The global tech investor’s pace of deals has picked up in February, with SoftBank participating in three new Canadian deals this month alone: 7shifts, Ventus Therapeutics and Paper. Shoplazza, which has roughly 300 employees, operates an online platform for direct-to-consumer e-commerce. The company’s latest fundraising round brings the total amount of capital it has raised to US$199 million.
