Talking point: The initiative involves a smartphone app called CommonSpace, built by Google sister company Sidewalk Labs, which is being used to track how people are using the RV Burgess Park in the Thorncliffe Park neighbourhood of Toronto. Sidewalk Labs is still in the middle of public consultations on its Quayside proposal and, on Thursday, will present to Waterfront Toronto’s Digital Strategy Advisory Panel. On Wednesday, Toronto Mayor John Tory tapped Councillor Joe Cressy to represent the city on Waterfront Toronto’s board of directors. Cressy has made supportive statements about the the Sidewalk Toronto plans thus far, tweeting about the commitment to affordable housing released late November.
