Now available in the U.S., shoppers can earn one per cent cash back when they make purchases using its checkout service, Shop Pay. (The Logic)
Talking point: The rewards will appear in the Shop app where they can be used for future purchases within the platform, and could help incentivize shoppers to spend their money there. When asked if the program would be available in Canada, Shopify spokesperson Kim Soward said: “We continue to keep a close pulse on interest in the offering to determine where we roll it out next.” Shopify has been testing the program quietly, as reported by BetaKit in May 2022. The company is hosting a celebration today—in tandem with its 17th anniversary—and giving away more than US$1 million in Shop Cash in partnership with some merchants. Shopify president Harley Finkelstein said in a statement that the new rewards program represents “a coming of age moment for Shop” and helps connect brands to more customers.
