Talking point: San Francisco-based Thirdweb makes tools that developers can use to build their NFT marketplaces, games and decentralized finance protocols across blockchains. Its platform can also be used for token gating, which allows stores to offer exclusive product drops and experiences to customers who hold specific NFTs. Shopify introduced that functionality for its merchants in June. The Ottawa-headquartered commerce company has made at least two Web3 venture investments in as many months. Shopify also made an undisclosed strategic investment in music NFT app Single in July.
