Talking point: The move makes three new directors for Shopify this year. At Microsoft, Scott also oversees the tech giant’s AI partnerships, the most significant of which is with ChatGPT maker OpenAI. (OpenAI chair Bret Taylor recently stepped down as a Shopify director.) In a pre-recorded conversation with Lütke released Tuesday, Scott said he considers AI a “platform” akin to Shopify, with other businesses building most of the new products and making most of the money on top of it. Cloud providers like Microsoft’s Azure are also generating considerable revenue as firms train or deploy models.
