Talking point: Shein, which started operating in the U.S. in 2017 and has been expanding its Canadian presence, accounts for 75 per cent of the American ultra-fast-fashion market, according to the suit. Temu accuses Shein of, among other things, “threats, intimidation, false assertions of infringement, and attempts to impose baseless punitive fines.” Shein called the suit “without merit.” It has recently sued Temu in the U.S., alleging trademark and copyright infringement as well as deceptive business practices. Both companies have grown significantly, especially when more people turned to online ordering during the pandemic. B.C.-based UniUni, a last-mile delivery provider that handles packages for both, has benefited from their success.
