Sagard Private Equity Strategies’ initial closing will include $50 million in capital, and target annual net returns of 14 to 18 per cent, the private equity firm said in a press release Thursday. Sagard, which is a branch of the Power Corporation of Canada, will invest in secondaries, primaries and co-investments. (The Logic)
Talking point: Sagard joins a spate of other firms pushing to reach a broader range of investors by offering similar funds. Canada’s Brookfield Asset Management said it planned to launch a retail fund for high-net worth individuals, Bloomberg reported in September, while BlackRock and Partners Group Holding have launched a similar offering. The minimum investment amount for Sagard’s fund is $25,000. “Individual investors have had minimal access to these investment opportunities,” chairman and CEO Paul Desmarais said.
