Talking point: Quebec announced its intention to ban the sale of internal combustion vehicles in 2020 as part of its pledge to reduce the province’s greenhouse gas emissions to 37.5 per cent below its 1990s levels. The government wants to have two million electric vehicles on its roads by 2030. Though the province has among the highest zero-emission vehicle registrations in the country, the government has reduced its subsidies for new electric vehicles—and recently suspended subsidies altogether between Feb. 1 and April 1 of next year due to a lack of funds.
