Talking point: German chemical company BASF is currently building a cathode production facility in Bécancour, while GM and South Korea’s POSCO are building a $500-million anode production plant. The site notably lacks a battery manufacturer—which Britishvolt says it can add. The company has yet to build a production facility of its own, slating 2024 as the start of its “gigaplant” in Britain. The privately held company employs 246 workers and has a US$1.97-billion valuation, according to PitchBook data.
