The convicted money launderer and co-founder of the notorious collapsed Canadian crypto-trading platform has enjoyed a second life as a decentralized finance (DeFi) guru, including the recently hacked Uwu Lend. He sent a blockchain message Monday offering about US$4 million to anyone who returns the remaining 80 per cent of the crypto funds. (The Logic, Unchained)
Talking point: Patryn founded Uwu Lend in September 2022, a few months after a Twitter sleuth exposed his identity as treasury manager of Wonderland, another DeFi project. The reveal hasn’t prevented Patryn from his ongoing success in crypto. Before the hack, Uwu Lend had US$91 million of crypto locked in smart contracts. Patryn, who goes by 0xSifu online, also has a token called Sifu Vision. In March, the B.C. Civil Forfeiture Office ordered Patryn to explain the source of about $250,000 worth of cash and other items the RCMP seized in June 2021, in connection with a fraud investigation linked to Quadriga. In a court filing, Patryn denied the property was obtained through crime.
