Kristina Logue and Jude Pinto will temporarily take over chief executive responsibilities in April, after Black, who opted not to renew her term, leaves the non-profit in charge of Canada’s payment infrastructure. Talking point: Black has been at Payments Canada for over five years, four of which she spent as president and CEO. During that time, it has faced pressure to modernize the country’s payments system, though it’s struggled with several delays. Its Real-Time Rail payments initiative—an update to the technology meant to move money between parties almost instantly—was meant to go live in 2019. In an interview with The Logic in December, Black attributed the delay in part to an ongoing risk assessment and said the organization would have an update in January. “To create a new payments system is a challenge,” she said, “and you can appreciate that we’re very, very focused on making sure that we’re launching a safe and efficient system.”
