The San Francisco-based startup’s “team is joining OpenAI,” Crossing Minds CEO Alexandre Robicquet said in a LinkedIn post on Wednesday night. TechCrunch first reported the move. (The Logic)
Talking point: It’s not clear whether OpenAI has acquired Crossing Minds or just hired its staff, or how many are making the switch; neither firm responded to The Logic’s request for comment. Crossing Minds once had about a third of its workforce in Toronto. It developed technology that clients used to generate better AI-driven recommendations and retrieve information from their datasets more quickly and accurately. Founded in 2017, the startup originally targeted brands selling online, offering them tools to personalize sites and marketing messages based on how shoppers browsed. Crossing Minds later applied its technology to AI assistants, and Robicquet said he’s joining OpenAI’s research team to work on AI agents. The firm raised US$13.5 million according to PitchBook data, including from Canadian investors Shopify and Radical Ventures.
