The institute, like counterparts Mila and Amii, also runs commercialization programs backed by Ottawa; the June update to the national AI strategy renewed that work with another $130 million in funding. Provincial grants accounted for $8.5 million of Vector’s $42.4 million in income in its fiscal year through March, while the federal government provided $19.3 million. Vector has helped turn Ontario’s “AI academic expertise into purpose-built solutions,” Economic Development Vic Fedeli said at the institute’s annual summit in Toronto on Friday.
