The Montreal payments firm is paying cash to buy all of Payoneer’s shares. In a release, Nuvei said the acquisition will help it offer payment services around the world, citing New York-based Payoneer’s regulatory licences in China, India and elsewhere as “a key component” of its plan. (The Logic)
Talking point: Global fintech deals picked up in 2025 amid excitement over AI and digital assets, reversing a three-year trend of decline. Nuvei said the Payoneer acquisition will help it expand agentic commerce, in which an AI executes financial transactions, and payments in stablecoins, crypto tokens pegged to the value of a central bank-issued currency. Payoneer offers services to marketplace sellers on Amazon, Walmart and eBay and has a large presence in emerging markets. This is Nuvei’s first acquisition since Boston private equity firm Advent International took the company private in a US$6.3-billion deal in November 2024. Reuters first reported that Nuvei and Payoneer were in talks.
