Talking point: Nuvei’s purchase of Phoenix-based Base Commerce comes less than  a month after it completed the acquisition of Smart2Pay, another digital-commerce payment company. Nuvei CEO Philip Fayer recently indicated that he had a “deep pipeline” of global acquisition targets, after a blockbuster $833-million public offering on the TSX in September. “This [Base] acquisition will significantly expand our product capabilities with a proprietary [automated clearing house] processing platform as well as further build and diversify our acquiring portfolio, adding high margin verticals,” Fayer said. Last August, Nuvei spent a whopping US$889 million to acquire U.K.-based payment-solution provider SafeCharge International Group, which already had a solid foothold in Europe, Asia and Latin America.
