Talking point: This isn’t the first time tech companies have opened up their data for better transportation. Montreal’s Transit app, which provides real-time trip planning for users allows developers to build apps from its data, raised $17.5 million in November 2018 from a billion-dollar investment fund created by Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi. CEO Sam Vermette has said open data from companies and transit agencies is key to creating multi-modal transportation apps that consider all forms of transport.
