Talking point: Meta said Project Waterworth is crucial to the development and use of data-hungry AI—particularly in India, where the company expects the cable to spur the country’s growing digital economy. Undersea cables transmit 95 per cent of the world’s internet traffic, according to one estimate. Meta has been part of 17 other undersea cable projects, according to global telecommunications analyst Telegeography, joining other tech giants like Amazon and Google.
