Talking point: The bans follow a Quebec government directive issued Feb. 27 banning the popular short-video app from government-issued mobile devices as a preventative measure, citing concerns over “information security and data protection.” The government directive applies to “McGill and several other universities in Quebec,” according to the McGill memo. McGill did not immediately respond to The Logic’s request for comment. The federal government also banned TikTok from its mobile devices, citing similar concerns.
