Talking point: The S&P and Nasdaq reached their lowest levels since September 2024 after U.S. President Donald Trump said Sunday he would “hate to predict” whether his country will face a recession. “There is a period of transition because what we’re doing is very big,” he added. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, on the other hand, told NBC news that there would not be a recession in America this year. In Canada, economists have flagged the potential of up to three years of recession if tariffs come in place. The S&P/TSX composite was down 1.6 per cent, as of 3:30 p.m.
