New York-based Tabone was previously vice-president and general manager for Google Pay and Google Finance, and worked on the search giant’s Chromebook laptop. He will take the role of chief product and technology officer, succeeding Guillaume Jacquet, who departed in July. (The Logic)
Talking point: Lighspeed has rotated its leadership during the pandemic, with longtime president JP Chauvet succeeding founder Dax Dasilva as CEO in February. The Montreal-based firm also has new faces in charge of operations, finance, business, revenue and people, many drawn from the ranks of longtime staff or the executive teams of companies it’s acquired. During Tabone’s tenure at Google Pay, the tech giant relaunched it as a finance superapp, integrating accounting tools and banking features for U.S. users. Lightspeed’s own payments service, which processes transactions for its independent-merchant clients, is key to its plans to keep growing and hit profitability. The company has 89 open positions on its product and technology teams, and is also hiring heavily in sales. Lightspeed shares closed up 9.7 per cent on the Nasdaq in Tuesday trading, amid a market-wide uptick; the stock opened down 85.8 per cent from its mid-September 2021 high.
