Talking point: Shell is the first buyer for the project, which is backed by the Nisga’a Nation and will be built on the Indigenous community’s treaty lands. Calgary’s Rockies LNG—a consortium of eight Canadian natural gas producers—and Houston-based Western LNG are building the remote LNG export facility. Project proponents say the facility will eventually produce around 12 million tonnes of liquified gas per year, comparable in scope to the 14 million tonnes that Shell’s $40-billion LNG Canada project expects to export in its first phase. Ksi Lisims is also expected to have net-zero emissions by using hydroelectric power potentially combined with carbon-capture technology.
