Talking point: While a growing number of venture firms are finding ways to use AI, Google Ventures was unusual in that its algorithm could kibosh deals over the wishes of the firm’s human partners. Axios noted that the change may have been prompted by growing frustration with the algorithm among the firm’s investors, especially when it would decide against follow-on funding for existing investments. While Google Ventures will remain very data-driven, it will now use data more as an aid to human judgment instead of as the main arbiter of which deals do and don’t get through.
