Talking point: The plans come after Ford delayed its planned shift to making EVs in Oakville, where the federal and Ontario governments had each contributed $295 million toward a $1.8-billion electric retrofit. Earlier this year, the company announced it was pushing it from 2025 to 2027, and the move toward conventional pickups raises further doubts about those electrification plans. Other major automakers have also been walking back their EV production targets amid waning demand, with executives like GM’s Mary Barra recently saying “the market’s not developing” fast enough to sustain a rapid electric-vehicle transition.
