An RBC court filing citing intimate communications between Nadine Ahn and vice-president Ken Mason used information selectively to “manufacture a case” against the former CFO, who did not improperly promote Mason or raise his pay, her lawyer Mark Fletcher told The Globe and Mail. (The Globe and Mail)
Talking point: The new document is the latest salvo in a $50-million lawsuit Ahn has filed against RBC. The lawsuit claims the bank wrongfully terminated her in April, and damaged her reputation by announcing she was fired following an internal investigation that found she had an undisclosed personal relationship with Mason. Ahn’s lawyers claim references to an anniversary date were not romantic, an “I love you” text was a joke and Ahn was simply quoting Shakespeare when she forwarded Mason romantic poetry. Mason is separately suing RBC for wrongful termination and RBC has filed a counterclaim against Ahn, seeking to claw back bonus pay and the “excess compensation” she allegedly awarded Mason improperly.
