Talking point: The firm wrote in a research note that employment levels in the auto parts sector were just above June 2020 levels, “the dark days of the pandemic.” Still, employees at two Canadian car factories got good news this week. Stellantis plans to restore its third shift at its Windsor, Ont., plant early next year, while GM has delayed plans to cut its third shift in Oshawa, Ont., until at least the end of January, according to Unifor, which represents unionized workers at the factories. Unifor president Lana Payne called these developments a “sign of life” for the auto industry, and the union said it’s pushing for GM to keep the third shift running permanently.
