Talking point: Brands and distributors use ChannelEngine’s technology to post and manage listings on online marketplaces like Amazon, Mercado Libre and Wayfair; it also links with the growing number of large retailers trying to expand e-commerce revenues by letting third-party merchants sell via their sites, which include Best Buy, Hudson’s Bay and Walmart. Many of those firms have themselves hired tech teams in Toronto, or plan to. ChannelEngine has raised US$57.4 million to date, according to Pitchbook data, including a US$50-million Seres B announced in March. The company currently has 161 staff, according to LinkedIn data, with offices in Dubai, Melbourne, Singapore and New York. “The majority of those staffing the new office will consist of hires from Toronto’s deep talent pool,” said ChannelEngine spokesperson Dustin Hucks. The company has not yet received any provincial or municipal government incentives, but Hucks said it may apply in the future.
Update: This briefing has been updated with comment from ChannelEngine.
