Quebec’s provincial government and the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) are calling for the financial co-op to do more to protect customer data. The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and the Comptroller of the Currency, the two U.S. agencies overseeing Desjardin’s Florida operations, are both aware of the breach. (Journal de Montréal)

Talking point: The calls for reform follow a Tuesday disclosure by Desjardins that 1.8 million credit card holders were affected by the breach. That’s in addition to the 4.2 million members of the financial co-op whose information was already compromised in a breach Desjardins has repeatedly blamed on a lone, now-fired employee. Last week, two senior employees, including the chief operating officer, departed the company following an internal review into the breach. That isn’t enough for Quebec’s finance minister, who is calling for governance changes at the bank.
