Talking point: The Alberta site will be an industry first, according to Deep Sky, one where companies can test a range of carbon-removal technologies side-by-side. So far eight firms—Greenlyte Carbon Technologies, NEG8 Carbon, Skyrenu, Avnos, Airhive, Phlair, Mission Zero and Skytree—plan to use the facility and its roughly 3,000 tonnes per year of CO2 storage capacity. Innisfail will serve as a proving ground for Lalonde, who launched Deep Sky in September 2022 and has big ambitions to establish a carbon-removal industry from the ground up. Also on Wednesday, Deep Sky announced it had begun geological tests of two mines in Quebec where the company plans to store captured CO2 underground.
