The London-headquartered liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure company wants to build a 380-kilometre pipeline to move natural gas from the Jeanne d’Arc Basin to a liquefaction plant near Fermeuse, N.L. Exports of LNG to Europe would begin in 2030. (The Globe and Mail, The Energy Mix)
Talking point: Swapan Kataria, CEO of both Crown and project partner Fermeuse Energy in St. John’s, N.L., linked the idea to the Liberal government’s push to accelerate major projects in the national interest to bolster the economy amid the U.S. trade war. “Without that, we would not be having a conversation today,” Kataria said. This is not the first time Crown, which is developing an LNG import terminal in India, has linked its plans to a new political environment. Last November, Kataria said Crown is hoping to develop and start building an LNG export plant in the U.S. before President Donald Trump finishes his four-year term in 2029.
