The Toronto-based startup says Command A Translate outperforms leading AI tools including OpenAI’s GPT-5, DeepSeek’s V3, Google Translate and the AI translation firm DeepL’s Pro system. Cohere’s model works across “23 widely used business languages,” including French, Japanese, Korean, Arabic and Hindi. (The Logic)
Talking point: Translation was a popular consumer use for AI even before ChatGPT. But the large language models (LLMs) that power new generative tools promise better interpretation than old methods because they can account for context. Cohere sells its models and North agent-builder tools to businesses, which can run the software on their own systems and connect it to their documents and data. That lets Command A Translate handle sensitive files, the firm says. Cohere has touted its multilingual capabilities as a selling point, training its LLMs on languages that are widely used in countries that are currently “under-serviced” by the technology, co-founder Nick Frosst told The Logic earlier this year.
