Aidan Gomez and Ivan Zhang, two of Cohere’s three co-founders, joined the round, which builds on the US$27-million financing Borderless announced in March 2024. The Toronto-based startup will use the money to develop its search technology. (The Logic)
Talking point: Borderless makes AI tools for employers. Customers use its AI agent to automate the paperwork and onboarding of new remote international workers; the product is now available across Canada and in California, Borderless CEO Willson Cross said. On Thursday, the startup launched a new free tool called HRGPT that can answer employees’ questions about vacation, benefits and internal projects, and that managers can use to do HR tasks. Borderless initially built its AI tools with Cohere’s large language models, but is now also using other providers. Gomez and Zhang have built overlapping angel portfolios, backing AI startups including Vancouver’s Cognosys, as well as Extropic, DatologyAI and Helical.
